A coach leaves the Sihlquai terminal by the main station in the morning and drives you about two hours to the Bernese Oberland. You change to the gondola or the cogwheel line, ride the Jungfrau Railway to the station at 3,454 metres, and come back to Zurich in the evening.
The days differ at the top. On the Best of Switzerland and Gray Line days, a guide goes up with you. On the glass-roof bus day, the guide stays with the bus and you explore the summit alone. The private days replace the coach with a car and your own driver-guide.
By rail you change at Interlaken Ost, at Grindelwald Terminal or Lauterbrunnen, and again at Eigergletscher. On a coach day you step off the bus at the valley station and follow the guide.
Every group day here includes the railway and a reserved seat on the last train up. From May to October that seat is compulsory, and on a busy morning it is the thing people forget.
The top is a warren of tunnels, lifts and terraces. On the guided days someone walks you through it in order, and you meet at a fixed time for the train down.
