The Jungfraujoch is more than a viewpoint. The station at 3,454 metres connects a lift, halls cut into the glacier, a snow terrace and, in summer, a snow park and a hut walk. Before you pick a Switzerland Jungfraujoch tour, use the times below to decide how long you want at the top.

The Sphinx Observatory, 3,571 metres

The Sphinx is the highest point you can reach. A lift climbs 108 metres in 25 seconds from the station to an international research station on the rock. Its terrace looks straight down the Aletsch Glacier, the longest in the Alps. Allow about 15 minutes, more on a clear day.

The terrace is outdoors and exposed. In cloud it can be a whiteout, and the wind is cold in any month. If the view is hidden, come back later in your visit: the cloud often moves.

The Ice Palace inside the glacier

Mountain guides cut the Ice Palace's corridors and halls into the glacier in the 1930s, with picks and saws. Today artists carve the sculptures in its niches: an eagle, a penguin, a bear. The floor is polished ice, so walk carefully in shoes with grip. The visit takes about 15 minutes and is part of your ticket.

Alpine Sensation and the 360° cinema

Alpine Sensation is a 250-metre corridor between the Sphinx Hall and the Ice Palace. It tells the story of the Jungfrau Railway: building began in 1896, and the line opened to the top in 1912. Thirty memorial tablets recall what the miners gave to build it. At the end stands a giant snow globe. Allow about 15 minutes.

The 360° cinema shows a 5-minute film of the Alps. It runs whatever the weather, which makes it a good stop on a cloudy day.

The Plateau on the snow

The Plateau is the outdoor terrace, about ten minutes from the station. Jungfrau Railways guarantees snow and ice there 365 days a year. On one side you look out over the Swiss lowlands as far as the Black Forest and the Vosges. On the other, the glacier runs away between four-thousand-metre peaks. Allow about 15 minutes, and wear shoes with grip.

The Snow Fun Park, in summer

Next to the Plateau, the Snow Fun Park lets you ride a zipline, sledge or ski in the middle of summer. Each ride costs extra, and safety gear is included. Allow about 45 minutes. The seasons and prices for 2026:

The Mönchsjoch Hut walk

From the station, a marked high-alpine path climbs about 200 metres to the Mönchsjoch Hut at 3,658 metres. It is the highest serviced hut in Switzerland, and the walk takes about 45 minutes each way. The trail is open from mid-May to mid-October, and the hut itself from the end of March. It can close at any time for avalanche, crevasse or storm danger.

Only if you are fit. You walk at over 3,400 metres, where the air is thin, on snow. Jungfrau Railways says good shoes and very good fitness are essential, and you hike at your own risk. If you have any doubt, read the altitude advice in the visitor guide and stay on the Plateau.

Chocolate and lunch at the top

Lindt Swiss Chocolate Heaven is the highest Lindt shop in the world; allow about 10 minutes. For lunch, the station has four restaurants: Aletsch Self is self-service, Crystal serves à la carte, Pikantus Lounge has drinks and snacks, and Bollywood serves Indian food. Drink water or tea as you go: at this altitude you lose around 200 ml of fluid an hour just by breathing.

Two hours or three: a plan for the top

Most coach days give you about two hours at the top. The days that go up through Kleine Scheidegg and down by the Eiger Express give you about three. Here is what fits in each. Walk the indoor sights first if the Sphinx is in cloud, and go out when it clears.
